Summary

It's no secret that trauma can have adverse affects on a person's physical and mental health, and that it can manifest in many different ways from person to person. But how exactly does it impact the multifaceted machine that is our brains? From memory loss and confusion about events to PTSD and other trauma-related disorders, the brain is especially vulnerable to traumatic events and care should be taken when revisiting and unpacking traumatic events. This workshop seeks to equip caregivers with the knowledge to identify traumatic behavior, understand its impact, and help care recipients come to terms and cope with their trauma.

Objectives:

  • Explore definitions of Trauma
  • Understand the parts of the brain and their functions
  • Examine the impact of trauma on the brain
  • Review trauma-related disorders and how they are formed
  • Discuss strategies for working with survivors of trauma
