Join us for the inaugural event in our new Family Caregiver Noontime Knowlege Series. Bring a lunch each 2nd Tuesday of the month for information built just for you.

Summary: 

Dementia Friends is a global movement designed to help all community members understand five key messages about dementia, how it impacts individuals and families, and how we each can make a difference in the lives of those living with dementia. Attendees will be given a Dementia Friends session workbook or a copy of the Dementia Friends webinar slides, covering all objectives listed below, making this an interactive and impactful session. 

Objectives:

  • Describe dementia and state the most common type of dementia.
  • State the five key messages about dementia. *
  • Explain two approaches to effectively communicate with a person living with dementia.
  • List two community resources to assist individuals and families living with dementia.

About the Speaker: Barb White
Retired after 31 years of service with the Akron-Summit County Public Library, Barb continues her commitment to Dementia Inclusive communities as a statewide Dementia Friends Master Trainer, a Dementia Friends Champion, a founding member of Dementia Friendly Summit County Ohio, and the Chair of Dementia Action Alliance’s Education and Programming Committee. Barb has shared strategies for Dementia Inclusive library practice on a statewide and national level, and brings Dementia Friends workshops to organizations, businesses, and governmental agencies across multiple community sectors in Summit County. Barb is the co-author (with Jennifer Brush and Margaret Jarrell) of The Dementia Inclusive Public Library Guide, a publication of the Ohio Council for Cognitive Health.

REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION INFORMATION:

​Class sizes are limited, so register early.  Classes with low registrations may be canceled.  If the class is canceled or moved, participants will be contacted via email at least 24 hours in advance.

Classes start and end on time.  To ensure a quality experience for all, please arrive (in-person) at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time.  

SOCIAL WORKERS: CEU credits will be adjusted 0.25 credit hours for every 15 minutes not in attendance; adjusted certificates will be emailed to participants within 3 business days after the training.  LICENSED NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATORS: full participation is expected, no partial credit will be awarded. Hard copies of certificates will be mailed upon request.

Refunds will be make ONLY for cancellations received three business days prior to the event. If received less than three days prior to the event, a credit can be issued for use at another program within the next 6 months. If notice of cancellation is not received before the date of the program, no refund will be issued. PLEASE NOTE: No show will be charged the full registration fee.

It is difficult to control room temperature to everyone's comfort level.  We suggest you dress in layers that can be adaptable to warm and cool temperatures.

For auditing purposes, arrival and departure times and signature are required on attendance sheets.
